What Is Segment Gross Margin?

Segment gross margin measures how much of each dollar of revenue a specific product line or business unit retains after paying direct production costs. It is the most fundamental profitability metric for multi-product companies because it shows which segments subsidize the others.

Gross Margin (%) = (Revenue − COGS) ÷ Revenue × 100
